Wilhelmina Hospital Grounds

Paviljoen 1 (pictured here) and Paviljoen 2 (directly behind this one) are the specific buildings within my research site of the Wilhelmina Hospital Grounds (WH Grounds).

These buildings were converted from their former use as hospital patient wards to their current use as housing and small business spaces for creative-types.  There is a very interesting story of how this came to be, and I have been lucky enough to find the architect who worked on this project - Mr. Jianho Kwa, of Architectenbureau Kwa. Jianho told me about the original project, about a current project under construction at the WH Grounds, and about another project that he is designing - a building at a children's gardening school that will be completely energy-independent.

The weather is perfect, and I have found Amsterdam to be welcoming and fun.  As Tom is here with Nike on business, we have been residing at the Hotel Newport in Huizen, which is some distance from Amsterdam, but quite a luxury.  I will complete my research on the WH Grounds from a room at a private residence in Amsterdam.
